You may have spotted the logo Vibram on different shoes‘ outsoles, especially on boots or premium sneakers. Vibram is actually an Italian company that is specialized on producing rubber outsoles. Their rubber outsoles are extremely lightweight and anti-slippery. Moreover, their materials provide good protection and still give you great comfort at the same time. You will find Vibram’s logo on a lot of shoes, including Maison Margiela, Nike, Visvim, SUICOKE, UGG and many other brands.

The history

The history of Vibram dated back to 1935, when its founder Bramani was developing climbing outsoles for his friends. 2 years later, he patented his invention and launched the first rubber lug soles called “Carrarmato”, which means tank tread.

 

After that, he developed many other different kinds of soles for mountaineering boots, casual sneakers and other shoes for specific sports.

In 2012, Vibram launched its most significant design ever made – the  FiveFingers. It can reduce foot injuries and strengthen foot muscles.

 

Nowadays, Vibram’s soles are manufactured in Brazil, China, Italy, the Czech Republic and the United States. Moreover, there are over 1,000 shoes manufacturers using their products. And shoes with Vibram’s outsoles are considered to be superior.

From B-15 Jacket to MA-1 – The Evolution of Bomber Jacket

Bomber jacket is one of the most popular winter wear. Do you know how they have evolved from the B-15 jacket? Bomber jackets are designed for pilots. In the past, the insulation in the cockpit were very poor. Thus, pilots have to wear bomber jackets with very good insulation and a fur collar to keep them warm. In 1949, there was a technology advancement in aircraft and the cockpit had better insulation. As a result, pilots are no longer needed to put on a thick bomber jacket. Thus, the bomber jacket also evolved from B-15 to the MA-1. The MA-1 is thinner and does not has a fur collar.

Not only the shape but also the color of bomber jacket evolved. The standard color of bomber jacket was midnight blue.  However, more sage, olive and green bomber jackets were produced during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. And you may notice that many bomber jackets have an orange lining. It is because if accident happens, the pilots can wear the bomber jackets inside out. Thus, he will be more easily spotted by rescuer with the sharp orange color.

As we talked to Monitaly’s designer Mr. Yuki Matsuda, he spent a lot of effort to source these vintage zippers. They are in a subtle vintage gold with a vintage puller.

When it comes to the hand warming pockets, there are changes too. There is also fur inside the pocket to keep your hand warm. And besides, the fur pops our a little bit around the pockets and give it a neat look.

The coat is inspired by the vintage Canadian army field jacket in the 60’s. It has the signature gusseted pocket with large slide button. The buttons also use military-standard melamine.

 

And it is worth mentioning about the fabric of the coat. It is Monitaly’s exclusive Vancloth fabric. The fabric is water resistant and ultra lightweight. And the Vancloth fabric being used in Military Half Coat Type B is the top version – Sateen. It mimics the material of the military coat in the army. Yet, it is even stronger and more water resistant. And of course – they are all made in LA.

And this season, Monitaly adds more details to the Military Half Coat Type B. First of all, you will find a corduroy collar.

Furthermore, if you open the front wind flap, you will find a #10 YKK zipper with leather pull.

And one special design is the self drawstring on the waist, which used to be on the hem.
